[About Peggy]

Providing individual therapy and couples counseling for
Bellingham and Whatcom County.

Pronouncing Scaief can be difficult. It sounds like “Skeef.”

Peggy and her husband recently moved from Eastern Washington where they lived for many years and raised their children. They were drawn to Whatcom County for the natural beauty, outdoor activities and abundant amenities.  Before moving, Peggy had a private practice in association with a psychiatrist and other clinicians in Richland, Washington. Prior to that she gained experience working in both private and public mental health agencies.

Peggy has more than 20 years of experience working individually with adults both male and female, with couples in relationship or marriage distress, with older teens, and with young adults.

Peggy’s treatment approach is one of collaboration, working together with the clients to establish treatment goals and assessing progress through the course of treatment.  Peggy provides a sensitive, supportive and caring atmosphere where people can safely delve into deep and troubling issues. Peggy uses Emotion Focused Therapy with both couples and individuals.  Often people are uncomfortable with feeling negative or painful emotions.  Emotion Focused Therapy assists clients in learning to identify emotions and assess whether these emotions are working for them.  Often these troubling emotions are responsible for that “stuck” state.  Clients learn to use their emotions intelligently rather than push them away.  An important part of the work is learning what you need emotionally to feel safe in a relationship, thus facilitating great emotional depth and healthy healing.  Confidence builds within your self as you learn to meet your needs appropriately.

Peggy assists people with the following concerns:

• Marriage counseling • Healing from loss
• Emotional pain of a divorce or relationship breakup • Anger regulation
• Interacting with partners, children, peers, co-workers and supervisors • Life transition issues

She works with people who struggle with life transition issues and the pain of grief and loss. She has considerable experience working with people suffering from:

• Anxiety Disorder • Bipolar Disorder
• Eating Disorder • Posttraumatic Stress Disorder
• Attention Deficit Disorder • Adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse
• Depressive Disorder

Peggy offers a free 20-minute in-person meeting to give you a chance to see if there is a “good fit.” Building a therapeutic relationship is an important part of successful therapy and feeling comfortable with the therapist helps to move you on this path.
